When i was a teachers assistant(first grade), i would add extra points for doodles and drawings when i was grading papers. Obviously, these points didnt go in the grade book. I called them Miss Rachel points. But the kids loved it and started doing more complex drawings on the back of their homework to get more points. I had a parent tell me that her daughter got excited to finish her homework so she could do a new drawing for me, so teachers, of literally any grade, give the drawings some acknowledgment. Its a creative outlet that may motivate your students to do their homework but more importantly, it could be someone’s escape and you just writing “nice panda” next to their drawing will make them feel so special.
We did a big schoolwide diagnostic test last month and this kid drew such an ambivalent stick figure that I had to try cheering it up a little.
This is not anthropomorphization but genuinely something theyre known to do. I’ve heard divers say octopuses and cuttlefish get fascinated by hand gestures and will sometimes respond to them like. We probably do look like we have little cephalopods on the ends of our arms, to them. Like we’re always putting on a puppet show.
Reblogging again because I just realized that if I had this advice in high school I would’ve never made a tumblr account.
Also works for most of those news sites like WSJ or NYT that only let you read a little bit, or block adblockers. Also some disable the scroll bar but if you go to the right side of the console after hitting F12 and look for the CSS element “overflow” and change it from “hidden” to “visible” then you can continue scrolling for free. Might have to click around on different parts of the page to find it, but it should work.
There’s also a Firefox/Chrome extension called Behind The Overlay that does all that with one mouse click. Used it for years; what a time saver.
And if you encounter a true paywall, use Archive.Today to bypass it. Just paste the paywalled url into the blue “search archived snapshots” box near the bottom:
Pasteups in NYC denouncing Facebook for collaboration with Nebraska police to sentence a teenage girl to 90 days in jail for using using the abortion pill to terminate her pregnancy.
Facebook gave the cops ALL THE DATA of the teen and her mother, based on a hunch by some random fucking cop. This included years worth of photos, videos, ‘private’ chats and THEIR FUCKING LOCATION DATA.
DON’T TRUST SOCIAL MEDIAS WITH ANYTHING
ID: Text pasted on a wall reading “Facebook gave Nebraska cops a teen’s DMs so they could prosecute her for having an abortion” /End ID
